The Basics
Full name:
Tanith Astraea Channary
Gender:
Female
Age:
16 Years
Year:
Six
House:
As of yet undecided.
Appearance
Celeb Claim:
Emmanuelle Vaugier ('cause Seconhand Lions was awesome)
Hair:
Her hair is thick and has a decent amount of body to it, but it’s also very straight. It just barely reaches the base of her shoulder blades, colored dark brown with slightly lighter, reddish highlights strewn throughout in small strands.
Eyes:
Very, very dark brown, with a slight hint of gold around the edges when the sun hits it just right.
Height:
Five feet, seven inches
Skin Tone:
Her skin tone has the appearance of one very evenly tanned, but, while others must work for their tan, Tanith's is genetic. She inherited the skin tone from her mother, and no amount of sun-hiding or sun-bathing has yet to change her tone to a noticeably different shade.
Her skin is flawless, save for three parallel scars on her right arm from her parents’ dog had scratched her while playing, a small, rounded scar across her left foot’s Achilles’ tendon from a very painful blister gained from wearing her mother’s shoes too much when she played Dress-Up, and a very faint, hardly noticeable scar, on the right side of her nose, between her eye and the bridge of her nose, from being foolish enough to put a cat near water.
Personality
Basic personality:
Tanith is pretty, and she doesn’t always like it. While the benefits of it can easily outweigh the downsides, sometimes those benefits don’t seem so beneficial when people just can’t leave her alone, as she puts it. At times, Tanith wonders what it would be like if she was simple and homely, able to have friends who got to know her for her.
Despite her beauty, Tanith actually isn’t very popular. She excludes herself because she considers the rest of her classmates too shallow to be regarded as a friend, and most of the Sixth Year students are realizing that she doesn’t like them a whole lot. Most people avoid her, except for a few brave souls who still wish to try and befriend her, although most of their hopes are usually snuffed out by the coldness with which she regards all men.
Tanith is quite ambitious, always eager to prove herself and show her strength. She doesn’t like feeling like she is a lesser to another, and so has a bad habit of practicing too hard on one subject because she feels inferior to another in that specific area. When she does this, she can sometimes neglect other, many times more important, studies, which can lead to trouble for her.
Tanith, while many would think she has exchanged beauty for intelligence, has a good mind beneath her skin as well. She excels in spellcasting, although hardly so in anything but. While she can’t be expected to be casting those very advanced spells in the restricted sections yet, there is very little she can’t do.
Her excelling at nearly everything has led Tanith to expect excellence from herself. When she tries to accept someone’s defeat of her, her failure at something, or her own stupidity, she seems to hit a brick wall. While she’s not totally arrogant, she can seem to have an air of one who is when they first meet her.
Likes:
Being alone; charms class; to some extent, Defense Against the Dark Arts, purely because she’s terrified of what would happen if the Deatheaters returned; daydreaming of real friends; Care of Magical Creatures; Quidditch; flying
Dislikes:
Superficial people; many a man that she deems too interested in her ‘body rather than her mind’; potions; herbology; transfiguration – she doesn’t like the thought of her classmates being able to change her shape; arithmancy – she took it for a while and decided it was just too stressfully difficult
Hobbies: Reading; writing the occasional short story; staring off into space; playing Quidditch
History
History: Tanith was born into an already busy family that was doomed to get even busier. Her mother worked at a muggle job, although she never learned the details of it – something that always had her mother coming home stressed and tired, which didn’t make her the best of at conversation. Tanith’s father worked in the ministry, but was killed in one of the last still-bold Deatheater raids when she was not even one week old, and so never played a large role Tanith’s life.
Regardless of her father’s death, life went on as usual. The only difference was that the chair at the head of their table remained ever empty, her mother refusing to allow anybody, even herself, to fill it, for the sake of preserving her husband’s memory. That very place and chair remained undisturbed until Tanith went off to Hogwarts.
Tanith’s mother wasn’t mean, but she wasn’t always gentle. Tanith grew up in a family of people who had to stand up for themselves, for otherwise nobody would. From this, Tanith learned the cold indifference and fiery retorts that she often uses.
Tanith’s history from the point of her father’s death onwards was – is – of little interest until three months after her tenth birthday, when an owl dropped a letter through the letterbox of her front door. The letter, of course, was her invitation to Hogwarts.
Tanith went to Hogwarts, bringing with her a striped owl she named Circe. Taking with her the style trained into her family, she did not make friends easily. She was a loner, and, although approached by several, seemed to place a high standard on all who she would so much as say more than was necessary to be considered ‘cordial’. For this reason, she was unpopular, and it made her all the colder and more spiteful.
Family:
Tanith’s father was a wizard, half-blood himself, which made him far more receptive to having a ‘muggle’ for a wife. Her mother was a bustling, firm, but still loving woman, one who Tanith always felt she could talk to when need be. Tanith’s mother was also known for her beauty, which Tanith inherited. Tanith is the oldest in a group of five, with three brothers and one sister. Two of her brothers can use magic as well, but they are yet to be old enough to be accepted into Hogwarts. Tanith’s father died when she was still quite young.
Blood:
Half-blood
